hello i have alopecia totalis and i have been thinking about getting my eyebrows tattooed on so that i do not have to pencil them on every day, i know someone else with alopecia who had theirs done by you and they look very nice. i was also wondering about eyeliner too because i have don't have any eyelashes either but i am not sure how eyeliner will look without the eyelashes, are there different types that can be done for people without any eyelashes that will sort of look like their is some hair there?

Hello Karen and welcome to the forum. For those that suffer from alopecia cosmetic tattooing is great way of relieving the daily routine of having to pencil on eyebrows, I always ask all my clients to bring their eyebrow pencil with them (and to wear their wig if they use one) that way I can make the eyebrows in a complimentary colour to your skin tone and hair colour, as with all my clients I consult with you on the shape you like to have your eyebrows. Applying an eyebrow tattoo to someone with alopecia is the same procedure as for someone that has over plucked their eyebrows, time must be taken to make sure that they are in the right place over the brow bone. A makeup simulation for an eyebrow procedure is a must, never let anyone tattoo on eyebrows if they cant draw them on first.

Eyeliner tattoo for those that have no eyelashes is a very delicate procedure and should only be performed by a qualified Para-Medical cosmetic tattooist as eyeliner cannot be safely removed once it has been tattooed on. Because there is no hair to stop products from entering the eye and no lash line to follow this can make the procedure more challenging, hence the reason to see someone who has training in this field.

Generally with clients that have no eyelashes it is best to use a lighter colour than would normally be used for an eyeliner usually a mid brown colour will look best, this colour will enhance the eyes without giving you the look of having rings around your eyes
O O which a dark colour will do if you have no eyelashes. I use a special needle and a particular technique with pigments to create very small '''''''''' strokes on the outer 1/2 of the bottom and top lash line which creates the illusion of having some eyelashes.

thanks so much for the explanation :D that sounds really good, you probably know that with total hair loss even though i can wear a wig i still look a bit odd because of not having eyelashes and eyebrows. people often look at me and i can see they know something is not right but they might not realise what it is at first and then they say what happened to your eyelashes or eyebrows. would be great not to have to keep explaining it to everyone all the time. i will be in touch.
